From the desk of Chief Mike Justice: Nothing is more heartbreaking in our profession than being tasked to deliver a message to a loved one about a death in the family. Like many cities across the nation we are seeing first hand the consequences of the opioid epidemic. We are seeing the pain from not only the people suffering with addiction but the pain their family and friends endure as well. These drugs have become a literal poison on our streets. Opioids are taking precious lives across the United States at a rate of 130 per day. It knows no boundaries; not gender, race, age, or economic status. The fact is we will never arrest our way out of this problem, nor should we try. Secondly, we cannot do this alone. If you, or someone you love, are struggling with any of these substances, we would like to offer any help we can provide. We can put you in touch with recovery centers or get you information on dealing with addiction. We can also confidentially share information on signs and symptoms to look for if you believe someone you know is in jeopardy. These are no longer just issues of substance abuse but issues of survival. There are options other than jail or losing your life. And finally, the men and women of the Lebanon Police Department, as well as the Governing body of our city, are committed to stopping the spread of these lethal substances and we are 100% committed to bringing dealers of these substances to justice. If you see something say something, every single tip will be investigated. Providing information will not just help better your community - you may be saving a life. ... See more
