DrugFree WilCo is a coalition of individuals, professionals, and community agencies working together to prevent substance misuse in Wilson County. The coalition meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 3:30 via Zoom. Meetings are open to the public and new members are always welcome. Please visit our Events Calendar for more information.

What is Prevention
Process
DrugFree WilCo uses elements of SAMHSA's Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) coupled with the 7 Strategies for Community Change to develop comprehensive, public health approaches to address substance misuse in Wilson County.
- Assess Needs: Identify local prevention needs based on data
- Build Capacity: Build local resources and readiness to address prevention needs
- Plan: Develop a comprehensive plan to address problems identified in the assessment
- Implement: Implement evidence-based prevention strategies, programs, policies, and practices
- Evaluate: Measure the impact
- Cultural competence: Interact effectively with individuals or members of the community
- Sustainability: Achieve and sustain positive outcomes
CADCA's Seven Strategies for Community Change
- Providing Information - educational presentations, workshops, printed media, and media campaigns
- Building Skills - workshops or trainings
- Providing Support - creating opportunities to support people to participate in activities that reduce risk or enhance protection, e.g., mentoring, support groups or clubs
- Enhancing Access/Reducing Barriers - increasing the opportunity to utilize systems and services, e.g., drug disposal events
- Changing Consequences - increasing or decreasing the probability of a specific behavior by altering the consequences
- Physical Design - modifying the physical design of the environment, e.g., park signage, permanent medication disposal bins
- Modifying/Changing Policy - formal changes in rules or laws
